For those more detailed …….
In blog #8 we delve into the exciting world of wardrobe repurposing - a sustainable and creative approach to breathing new life into your outfits without breaking the bank. Join us as we explore how to refresh your wardrobe by creatively utilising belts from dresses, finding hidden gems on Vinted, experimenting with age-related dye techniques and transforming your clothing with a simple button swap.
1. Dress belts - cinch and define
Let's start with a simple yet powerful accessory - belts! Have you ever considered using a belt from one of your dresses to add a fresh twist to another outfit? A belt can instantly cinch your waist and define your silhouette, creating a flattering and stylish look. Unleash your inner fashionista by mixing and matching belts with different patterns, textures and colours to elevate your outfits to a whole new level.
2. Vinted treasures - hidden gems await
Vintage fashion is making a major comeback and it's no wonder - the timeless elegance and unique charm of vintage pieces can breathe new life into your wardrobe. Shopping on platforms like Vinted allows you to find one-of-a-kind clothing items that fit your style perfectly. Be on the lookout for classic blouses, elegant dresses, or statement accessories that can effortlessly elevate your ensemble.
3. Dye techniques - embrace the fading beauty
Sometimes, a clothing item's colour might fade over time, but instead of discarding it, why not embrace the fading beauty? Age-related dye techniques are all the rage, allowing you to intentionally fade or change the colour of your clothes for a vintage or bohemian vibe. Experiment with tie-dye, ombré, or gradient techniques to give your wardrobe a unique and personal touch.
4. Button swap - small change, big impact
Buttons are often overlooked, but they can be game-changers when it comes to your outfit's overall look. Replace basic buttons on a shirt with more intricate and eye-catching ones, or swap out traditional buttons on a coat with toggle closures for a cozy, winter-ready vibe. Let your imagination run wild as you explore various button styles and materials to create a bespoke look that stands out.
5. Challenge: "Colourful Wardrobe Week"
Duration: 5 days
Objective: To wear a different colour every day for five consecutive days and make use of the various colours of clothes in my wardrobe.
Rules:
Each day, I must select and wear an outfit primarily featuring a specific colour from my wardrobe.
The colour chosen for the day must be prominently visible in at least one clothing item (e.g., shirt, dress, trousers).
Accessories, such as scarves, ties, hats and shoes, can be used to enhance the chosen colour theme for the day.
The challenge is to encourage creativity and explore colour combinations that you might not have tried before.
No repeating the same colour during the five days - each day must feature a distinct colour.
Day-by-Day Colour Challenge: Day 1: Radiant red
Wear an outfit where the primary colour is red. Accessorise with complementary colours to make the outfit stand out.
Day 2: Brilliant blue
Create an ensemble with blue as the dominant colour. Experiment with different shades of blue and play with patterns and textures.
Day 3: Glowing green
Showcase an outfit with green as the focal colour. Consider incorporating nature-inspired prints or patterns to match the theme.
Day 4: Vibrant violet
Embrace the elegance of violet by styling an outfit with this rich and regal colour. Look for ways to incorporate purple hues into the ensemble.
Day 5: Yellows of sunshine
End the challenge with a bright and cheerful outfit featuring various shades of yellow. Use accessories to add a pop of contrasting colours.
Bonus challenge:
To make the challenge even more exciting, try to incorporate colours that you rarely wear or colours that you think might not suit you. This will help you explore different fashion choices and step out of your comfort zone.
Remember, fashion is not just about following trends but expressing your individuality, so don't be afraid to experiment and let your style shine through. Happy wardrobe shopping and don't forget to follow the theme over on our instagram page @igotstylecoach
